2010 FESTIVAL PROGRAMME

Tuesday 8th June: DEAN PARKIN: 'Walking with Words', a stroll around Woolpit with Poems, Words and Stories along the way, followed by a glass of something refreshing in the Woolpit Swan, with more Poems! Starts from the Village Pump at 6.30pm. Dean is a unique poet and performer, based in Suffolk, his amusing, offbeat and tender poems find the extraordinary in everyday journeys. A regular at many festivals and reading series across the UK, he is also host of Short Cuts Cabaret, fast gathering cult status as Suffolk's first real variety show. He also has a regular slot on Radio Norfolk's afternoon show, helping to demystify poetry. Tickets £6.Thursday 10th June: THE AMADEUS ORCHESTRA - performing in the Village Hall. The Amadeus Orchestra was formed in 1990 and is one of the World's foremost orchestra's for young professional's, many of whom have gone on to play in the World's leading Orchestras. The Orchestra enjoys touring, including a regular Winter tour of China and we are delighted they will be in Woolpit for the 2010 Festival. The Amadeus will be performing a String Programme for this concert comprising - Elgar: Serenade, Op.20, E minor; Dvorak: Serenade, Op22, E major; Mendelssohn: Sinfonia no.12, G minor; Holst: St Paul's Suite; Mozart: Adagio and Fugue, K.546, C minor; Greig: Holberg Suite, Op.40. Tickets £12 Saturday 12th June: At 2pm, in the Village Hall, OBELON ARTS presents 'The Three Singing Pigs'. This is a puppet show of 5 short traditional stories told in new ways, using an exciting mix of rod, glove and muppet-style puppets, vivid costumes and masks, songs and raps. There is likely to be plenty of audience participation with songs, sounds and actions. Tickets £5Then at 7.30pm, in the Village Hall, JOHN & PAUL II presents their tribute to Lennon & McCartney, supported by well known local based 'SIGHTS 'N' SOUNDS'. John & Paul II comprises Jon Mellor, Vocals and Bass, and Lee Doherty, Vocals and Guitar. Listening to John & Paul II perform Please Please Me, I Wanna Hold Your Hand, Penny Lane and many other of the Beatles hits and can you honestly say that the spirit of the Beatles does not live on? The evening will be one of pure 50s and 60s nostaligia! Tickets £12Sunday 13th June: ROHAN McCULLOUGH on stage at the Village Hall in "MY DARLING CLEMMIE". This is the remarkable, moving and highly entertaining story of the woman who married one of the truly great figures of the 20th century - Sir Winston Churchill. This play has had fantastic reviews and we are so pleased it will be performed at the 2010 Festival. Tickets £12Thursday 17th June: CANTABILE presents 'From Madrigal to McCartney' in St Mary's Church, Woolpit. Cantabile have established an unrivalled reputation throughout Europe and beyond for harmony singing of the highest quality combined with a unique and very British sense of humour. They have been delighting audiences worldwide since 1982, are supported by 13 solo albums, over 2000 live performances and more than 200 TV appearances. Not to be missed. Tickets £15Saturday 19th June: RICHARD DIGANCE on stage in the Village Hall. He remains one of the most respected and evergreen entertainers that Britain has produced, and we are fortunate that he will be performing his latest show at our Festival, which comprises two hours of original entertainment with just his guitar - no gimmicks, or support acts, just a treasure-chest of stories, that have been collected through 30 years that began as a BBC comedy writer, and wonderful rhymes and songs. Highly respected and recently voted by a well known Sunday newspaper as one of the Magnificent Seven of Comedy, alongside Tommy Cooper and Bob Monkhouse. Tickets £16Sunday 20th June: ROBERT POWELL & FRIENDS - at Woolpit Village Hall, in 'The Silver Screen'. This is an affectionate and nostalgic romp through the first hundred or so years of cinema, starting with the Lumiere Brothers in Paris, in 1895, and ending with Bond 22 at Pinewood Studios in 2008, we will meet on our way Charlie Chaplin, Mae West, Mickey Mouse, Bogart, Clark Gable, Groucho Marx and many, many others. The journey will be sweetened with musical interludes from Scott Joplin, Gershwin through to John Barry's 'James Bond' theme. Robert will be joined by a well known Actress, to be announced later, plus Christine Croshaw on Piano, and Clive Conway on Flute.Tickets £16
