Woolpit is a beautiful Suffolk village, situated just off the A14 between Bury St Edmunds and Stowmarket. It has excellent facilities, including the undermentioned venues for the Festival's performances.

ST. MARY'S CHURCH

The Church spire, visible from miles away, is quite unlike anything else in East Anglia and the Porch has the reputation of being Suffolk's finest, indeed some say the best in all England. It is two-storey, 15th century, and contemporary with the nave. It rises way above the south aisle, tower-like in itself. Entering the Church, you step into cool darkness, then look up, as it is breathtaking. This is the region's most perfectly restored angel hammerbeam roof. It shows us in detail more than any other what the Medieval imagination was aiming at. From the still, small silence of the church floor below, you look up into a great shout of praise. Here are hundreds of figures, both angelic and human. The profusion is ordered, as if some mighty hymn were in progress. Beneath the roof, the church is broad, its two aisles giving room for the panoply of medieval liturgical processions. At the east end of the south aisle was once the shrine of Our Lady of Woolpit, a site of medieval pilgrimage in connection with a nearby holy well. Apart from the front rows, many of the benches appear to be in their original positions. Some of the bench ends are 15th century. There is air circulation controls for the Main Hall with the Control switch for the 3 overhead fans in the kitchen. The Stage has an area of 12 m. by 7.5 m (total area of 90 sq.m) Accoustics are excellent, and the Stage and Dressing Room provides great facilities for visiting artistes and local productions. The hall is licensed for public entertainment, theatre and for the sale of alcohol. There is good Car Parking available, with 40 places in the Hall Car Park itself (2 for disabled drivers) and another 25 places in the MSDC Car Park opposite the Church. In addition there is plenty of space on the Field for parking, weather permitting.
